November 21, 2022, Toronto, Ontario— Electricity Transformation Canada (ETC), Canada’s most influential renewable energy event, just wrapped up its second installment in Toronto. The conference and expo attracted more than 1,600 attendees and nearly 100 exhibitors from across Canada, as well as other parts of North America.

ETC kicked off with the outgoing President and CEO of the Canadian Renewable Energy Association (CanREA), Robert Hornung, sharing an encouraging progress report on CanREA’s 2050 vision one year after its launch at ETC 2021.  Hornung also introduced incoming President and CEO, Vittoria Bellissimo.

“I was delighted to attend this year’s ETC, where I was able to meet with so many important stakeholders in Canada’s renewable energy and energy storage industries. We have a lot to do when it comes to decarbonization, but our industry is up for the task. The excitement and energy were palpable at ETC, and I want to congratulate CanREA’s partners, RE+ Events and Hannover Fairs, on a big success,” said Vittoria Belissimo, incoming President and CEO of CanREA.

The conference’s substantial educational program included important discussions about electrifying transportation, decarbonizing heavy industry, green hydrogen, energy storage, corporate PPA opportunities, supporting a just, equitable and affordable energy transition, retooling Canada’s workforce for the electricity system of the future, and cross-Canada markets and policy updates. The event was bookended by a major announcement from Natural Resources Canada, who announced nearly $1.6 million in federal support for CanREA’s Electricity Transition Hub.

The ETC show floor featured product and service demonstrations from nearly 100 exhibitors across the clean energy landscape—including wind, solar, and energy storage. The show floor also hosted an education theater, covering sessions on everything from hybrid AC/DC and DC microgrids and decarbonizing Canada’s remote communities, to building a diverse and equitable clean energy workforce.

“ETC brought together an important gathering of clean energy leaders,” said Stephen Miner, President & CEO, RE+ Events. “We’re looking forward to expanding the event’s reach in 2023.”

ETC featured plenty of opportunities for attendees to network. Electric Connection, the official ETC offsite reception, was held at Real Sports, providing a fun and unique atmosphere for those who participated. Attendees were also able to mingle during the various networking breaks in the Exhibit Hall, the Opening Reception and the Exhibit Hall Happy Hour. A special networking event with the Canadian Francophonie was also on the agenda, as was a members-only exclusive meet-and-greet with CanREA’s incoming President.

“We were very happy to participate in the successful edition of ETC 2022 under the new alliance between Hannover Fairs Mexico, CanREA and RE+ Events, which will aim to strengthen ETC in the coming years, as well as promote the opportunities of the renewable energy transition in North America”.

Electricity Transformation Canada 2023 will be held October 24-25, in Edmonton, Calgary.
